"Australian heavyweight Lucas ‘Big Daddy’ Browne has promised his April 21 fight against former NRL star Paul Gallen won’t go the distance.

The two big boppers will step into the ring at Wollongong Entertainment Centre in a bout that’s been built up on social media for a long, long time.

Browne, 41, last week signed the papers to make it official.

He wanted to fight Gallen over 10 rounds but the retired Cronulla captain insisted on a shorter fight and eventually the promoters settled on a six-round bout.

Browne says that just means he will take less time to knock Gallen out.

“I don’t want a decision,” Browne told foxsports.com.au on Monday.

“I don’t like putting my fate in the hands of judges, so it’s definitely going to be a knockout, or me going out on my sword.

“Six rounds is six rounds, I think he can go six rounds but he starts gassing after that, he’s never been into the deep end.

“I wanted to take him into that deep end... maybe another time.”

Browne, a former WBA heavyweight champion, is one of Australia’s most successful heavyweights and has 29 career wins to his name with 25 knockouts, confirming his reputation as one of the deadliest punchers around.

He’s taller than Gallen and has a lethal right hand and he plans on letting the one-time Sharks champion know about it when they step into the ring.

“I’m not going to let him off the hook,” Browne said.

“I’m coming to bash, he’s coming to do what he does best which is come forward, so it’s going to be two Aussies fellas coming together and punching on which is going to be great.

“I think it’s going to be very fan friendly, that’s what fans want to see.”

Gallen last week revealed Browne will earn $130,000 for the fight.

Gallen is earning considerably more, although he didn’t reveal his own payday, but has forfeited $100,000 of his own money to make the bout happen.

Browne’s promoter Dean Lonergan wouldn’t sign off on the event until his fighter was guaranteed a six-figure amount.

“He’s getting $130,000 and he’s not worth $20,000,” Gallen told Wide World of Sports.

“People can say what they want about what he’s achieved or what he hasn’t achieved, but it comes down to the eyes that watch it. That’s what it comes down to.

“And he’s virtually irrelevant. That’s why he’s not getting this sort of money for fights. That’s just fact.”

Gallen has a professional boxing record of 10-0-1 with five knockouts, and most recently shocked former MMA star Mark Hunt by recovering from a huge punch to come back and win on decision.

Browne is adamant he will prove to be Gallen’s biggest challenge in the ring yet.

“He’s fought Mark Hunt, and I thought Mark was going to do him. I thought it was Mark early or him late and it was obviously (Gallen) late,” Browne said.

“I’m not going to come in at 128 kilos that’s for sure, I’m going to be fit and ready to go. He’s going to have a hard time against me.

“He’s not a boxer, he’s a fighter. And I’m more of a brawler than a boxer anyway, so it’s all right.

“I think two fellas coming together, coming heard-first and punching on.”- www.foxsports.com.au
